"Good morning, Mapping Specialists." This is our clients' first impression of Mapping Specialists and often MSL's first contact with clients. Oona Markielewski's cheerful voice has greeted customers since 1995. Answering the phone is only one of the many hats Oona wears being MSL's Accounting Manager has many other responsibilities.
Oona was born in the Washington, DC area, but grew up in Winona, Minnesota. She attended the University of Wisconsin at La Crosse for one year, has degrees in accounting and finance from Madison Area Technical College and is one class away from her bachelor's degree in business administration from Lakeland College in Madison, WI. She looks forward to finishing her class work and getting her degree in May 2002. "I'm sure that this wont be the end of school for me. I can't imagine not challenging myself and learning something new," says Oona.
Oona came to MSL in August of 1995 as an administrative assistant. It was immediately apparent that she had other skills. She quickly moved into a support role for Jeff Kranz handling various accounting functions. Oona is now responsible for virtually all our internal accounting functions. "I really enjoy the challenge accounting brings. It allows me to use my skills and at the same time have direct contact with our clients," Oona remarks.

While accounting is her primary responsibility, Oona also has many other responsibilities. She is the chair of the MSL's Building Committee and is a member of the Personnel Committee. She handles and manages all of the insurance benefits provided by MSL. She calculates and maintains all of the payroll records, which includes entering timesheets for all of the employees on a daily basis. Oona also processes all of the invoices, both internally and the ones sent to our clients.
Oona lives in Deerfield, WI with her husband Greg and their springer spaniel Brandy. She has many interests and hobbies. Obviously, she takes great interest in her continuing education. She enjoys snowmobiling, however as she states, "the lack of snow this year just means that my snowmobile will be ready for next year." She also enjoys a nice summer day on the lake with her husband fishing. However, ice fishing is out of the question. "Why would I want to go sit out on a frozen lake when it's warm inside? The only thing a frozen lake is good for is for me getting from one side to the other on my snowmobile!" she says.
Oona is one of those employees every company should have. She seems to have an endless supply of energy and takes great pride in her work and the success of the company. She's not afraid of a challenge and enjoys answering the telephone and talking with our clients. So, the next time you call and you hear "good morning, Mapping Specialists" say "Hi Oona, how's the ice fishing?"
